Description:
This position serves in a supervisory support role for the Director, Clinic Operation and/or Assistant Director of Clinical Support Operations in the Inclusive Care Clinic. Duties include but are not limited to management of the daily operations in the clinic, as well as daily supervision of dental assistant personnel as needed. This position will assume a supervisory role in the absence of the Director, Clinic Operation and/or Assistant Director of Clinical Support Operations. Some chairside dental assistant support will also be provided as needed.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provides chairside dental assisting for the Inclusive Care Clinic.
- In coordination with Department Head, assists the Director, Clinic Operation and/or Assistant Director of Clinical Support Operations with managing day-to-day clinic operations in the Inclusive Care Clinic.
- Interview, orient, lead, mentor, and assign dental assistants to meet departmental and organizational needs.
- Determines needs, orders, stores, and keeps inventory of supplies and equipment used in the clinics, and sterilization unit.
- Assigns daily duties/responsibilities and supervises the Dental Assistant and Sterilization Staff in Inclusive Care Clinic in the absence of the Director, Clinic Operation and/or Dental Unit Coordinator.
- Assist the Director, Clinic Operation and/or Assistant Director of Clinical Support Operations with completion of timesheet, leave, and evaluation records according to College policies and procedures.
- Provides guidance, training, instruction, and mentoring to new and current dental assistants, sterilization staff, residents, and dental students in specialized procedures while assigned to the clinic.
- Monitors and maintain functionality of equipment, instruments, and supplies in the clinics, sterilization unit, Inclusive Care Clinic.
- Engages in process improvement and quality assurance to ensure safety and quality in the clinical setting. Identifies areas of improvement and takes a proactive approach to improving efficiencies.
- Performs work related to the lower levels in this series such as a Dental I-III and Central Sterilization Supply Technician as needed.
- Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
- Three years (36 months) of work experience in dental assisting comparable to that performed as the Dental Assistant III level of the series; or as an expanded-function dental assistant, or as an oral health counselor
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified Dental Assistant with experience in a dental clinic facility, program, or in dentistry practice.
- Supervisory work experience of persons and/or performing specialty driven duties including four-handed dentistry in an academic setting, with demonstrated ability to motivate, develop, and direct people as they work.
- High school graduation or equivalent.
- Advanced knowledge of dental techniques, terminology, instrumentation, materials, practice, procedures and medicine as they pertain to dental assistance.
- Knowledge of sterile technique and infection control procedures.
- Experience managing/ordering inventory, overseeing clinic operations, knowledge of regulatory/compliance requirements
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Communicate effectively (oral and written) in English and Spanish as needed for assigned duties.
- Basic computer skills.
