Job Summary
The Electrical Construction Superintendent will use technical knowledge and judgement to provide code required skilled inspections and recommendations of corrections to noted issues on university construction projects in compliance with intent of the design and the University's current adopted codes & standards. This position will also coordinate with applicable parties and Code Compliance & Fire Safety on code required inspections and conditions of Certificates of Occupancy; provide commissioning on electrical, lighting, fire alarm & life safety, and other related work; on a case-by-case basis, review & inspect building automation systems controls; conduct plan reviews on select projects; work on project assignments as directed by Lead Inspector / Construction Superintendent; and collaborate with the project teams and Associate Directors of Code Compliance & Fire Safety.
Duties and Responsibilities
INSPECTION & COMMISSIONING OF UNIVERSITY CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS
Projects may be small remodels to large new construction :
- Perform progress and final onsite inspections for power distribution, data, fire alarm & life safety, lighting, and lightening protection systems, and review reports & testing results for conformance with applicable university adopted codes, industry standards and intent of the project design.
- Perform progress and final inspections for review for conformance with University Facilities Standards, or approved variances.
- Coordinate code required & routine inspections for designated disciplines.
- Work with Code Compliance & Fire Safety and project team to determine which power distribution, data, fire alarm & life safety, lighting, and lightening protection systems inspections & testing should be performed by University staff versus a testing lab or inspection agency.
- Review permit and / or contract documents (plans & specifications) prior to conducting inspections to determine the applicable codes, standards, and University Facilities Standards.
- Review & provide codes and standards related written feedback on construction submittals relative to contract documents, requests for information (RFI's), requests for proposals (RFP's), and change orders (CO's).
- Review & compile university staff's comments on electrical related construction submittals.
- Report known deficiencies to C&I Lead Inspector and Project Manager.
- Maintain inspection & commissioning project documentation in a readily accessible location by other team members, including but not limited to field notes, photographs, logs, construction submittal reviews, checklists, etc.
- When requested, coordinate control issues between the university, professional services consultants, and controls contractors.
- When requested, provide review & comment on DDC temperature controls systems and graphical screens during construction and commissioning phase.
- When requested, provide or assist in programming control systems.
- Meet with review team members, architects, engineers, users, department heads, researchers, instructors' consultants and others to discuss proposed project changes and requirements.
- Attend select construction coordination and progress meetings as required.
- Witness startups of various systems.
- Perform testing and commissioning or track commissioning for construction projects.
- Coordinate electrical power distribution, fire alarm & life safety, lighting, communications, and other system demonstrations and training for university personnel.
- Assist facilitating and follow up on corrective actions on any reported systems issues for assigned disciplines, including communicating with contractors to get them back on-site to address warranty issues.
- Coordinate LEED documentation with the University, contractors, and professional services consultants.
- Use and communicate within university project management software.
- Review Change Order estimates, as needed.
- Perform assessments of existing electrical systems of campus buildings for system operation, functionality, code compliance, and compatibility with associated systems, as requested.
- Maintain working relationship with Consultants, Contractors, Project Managers, Construction Services and In-house trades.
- Perform other inspection and commissioning duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 3334 - Electrical Construction Superintendent position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the search close date. The budgeted salary range for the position is $95,000 to $117,000 per year. Final salary offered will be determined by a thorough assessment of available market data, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints. Authorization for work sponsorship is not available for this position.
