We are searching for a Human Resources Generalist - Student / Hourly / Payroll to join our growingteam. The HR Generalist - Student / Hourly / Payroll functions in a shared service center and is focused on human resources and payroll operations relatedto student, academic hourly, and extra help employment. Duties & Responsibilities
Analyzes, prepares and processes appointments for student, academic hourly, and extra help employees :
- Review the hiring request for accuracy, rate verification, offer / acceptance letters, job description, background check completion, I-9 and UI New Hire processing, Federal Work Study confirmation, E-Verify, etc.
- Advise new employees in completion of UI New Hire, Form I-9 and international payroll forms; work with current employees to ensure personnel records are up to date.
- Ensure Form I-9 compliance for specified employees, which includes proactively communicating with supervisors and employees, working closely with other HRSS staff to address problems as they arise.
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of employment eligibility of foreign nationals, student visas, Form I-9 requirements and other related employment policies / processes for these employee groups.
- Advise hiring managers and employees regarding Working Outside of the State / U.S. and collaborate with all relevant offices for this process.
- Utilize HR systems such as The Grainger College of Engineering Appointments Application, TimeTracker, Banner, HR Front End, Tracker I-9, JDXpert, and Cornerstone to process and track these appointments.
Responsible for bi-weekly (hourly and civil service) payroll processing :
Independently and in a timely manner, respond to a wide variety of inquiries and requests regarding hiring / payroll practices and policies related to undergraduate / graduate student, academic / graduate hourly and extra help non-technical / professional appointments.
Compose correspondence for employees, university departments, administrative units, and other outside agencies this includes processing U.S. Army Corps of Engineer Research Laboratory (CERL) contracts that require verifying contract information and facilitating the contract between CERL and SPA.
Provide input for process improvements related to HR operations; work closely with HRSS staff to review and update documentation, such as internal checklists, new hire packets, template letters, etc.
Receive information from departments regarding background check requests as required for the Protection of Minors Policy; submit and track requests in Cornerstone.
Perform other HR-related duties as assigned, including serving as backup to other HRSS staff.

Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time, Civil Service 5020 - HR Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date.The budgeted salary range for the position is $50,000 to $60,000. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the full range for a position. Hybrid work options may be available for this position, with the ability to be on-site at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus as needed per the University's Workplace Flexibility policy. Sponsorship for work authorization is not available for this position.
