Ambulatory Pharmacy Services, a unit of the Department of Pharmacy Practice in the UIC College of Pharmacy is seeking Pharmacy Technician II, Floater Technicians to provide coverage in our Ambulatory Pharmacies that service the patients, employees, and students of UIC and UI Health. We have 6 pharmacies located within walking distance to each other on the west campus and one pharmacy at University Village on Maxwell St., easily accessible by car or bus.
Highly dependable, adaptable, self-motivated and high performing pharmacy technicians who meet the minimum qualifications for Pharmacy Technician II are encouraged to apply. This is an opportunity for experienced technicians to learn varied skill sets in various locations. Most of our pharmacies are open Monday through Friday with a range of hours from 7:00 am to 6:00pm and Saturdays from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. The schedule will be based on the operational needs of the pharmacies.

Description:
The Pharmacy Technician II, Floater performs technical functions of drug distribution for Ambulatory Pharmacy Services under the direct supervision of licensed Clinical Pharmacists or Pharmacy Technician III and assists Pharmacists/Managers in the supervision of Pharmacy Technician I and Pharmacy Externs. This position will float to the Ambulatory Pharmacies to maintain adequate staffing levels as required.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Responsibilities of the Floater Pharmacy Technician II include, but are not limited to:
- Covering pharmacy technician shifts of planned and unplanned time off
- Traveling to any of the Ambulatory Pharmacies as required to assist with technician staffing
- Participating in pharmacy workflow and operations as assigned
- Maintain an organized and proactive approach when processing prescriptions by actively communicating issues to the Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technician IIIs or other staff as needed
- Prepare, compound, and label sterile and non-sterile preparations as necessary, including chemotherapeutic agents as assigned
- Willingness to learn and assist in other operations coverage as required
- Inventory management and restocking automated medication cabinets
- Assist with cash handling reconciliation
- Possess the knowledge and capability of navigating 3rd party insurance plans, submitting and processing prior authorizations, and documenting communications with clinical staff into the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system
- Assist with other related pharmacy technician duties as assigned
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):
- Ability to adapt to various pharmacy environments

- Ability to travel from pharmacy to pharmacy as required to provide coverage

- Thorough knowledge of procedures necessary for ordering drugs, storing drugs and rotating stock and medication recalls
- Knowledge of compounding or IV admixtures
- Knowledge of medication supply sources and inventory maintenance/control
- Skill in the calculation of advanced pharmaceutical problems
- Skill in preparation of daily work reports
- Skill in patient record keeping and reports
- Ability to accurately interpret data, determine the validity of results, and initiate corrective action immediately
- Ability to conduct quality assurance audits
Minimum Qualifications Required:
1. Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the State of Illinois.
2. Any one of the following that equals six (6)months:
A. Successful completion of a formal training program in technical, non-professional pharmaceutical procedures and practices.
OR
B. Work experience in technical, non-professional pharmaceutical procedures and practices.
3. One (1) year (12 months) of work experience as a pharmacy technician.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two or more years retail pharmacy experience
- Bilingual English/Spanish, English/Polish
- Experience with IV admixture/USP797/800 in a clinical setting
