Police Telecommunicator receives, interprets and processes calls regarding emergency and non-emergency situations to appropriate and/or supporting agencies that includes: UIH Hospital Security, University Police, University Facilities, Fire/EMS and Chicago Police Department. Police Telecommunicators work under general supervision of higher level personnel.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Receives and interprets in-coming calls regarding complaints, inquires and reports of emergency and non-emergency situations: logs, coordinates, disseminates and maintains records of messages.
- Operate and monitor access control system, surveillance videos, public safety app and the University fire/security alarm system; dispatches firefighters or police officers as necessary or dispatch police, fire/EMS as necessary.
- Creation, modification, and cancellation of LEADS files.
- May notify of local weather warning system and broadcast severe weather notices as directed.
- Control access to police station by requiring proper identification for visitors.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
- No record of conviction of a felony or a crime involving moral turpitude.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
1-2 years’ experience in a call center environment or a high-stress environment working with the public.
