ISGS isseeking to hire an Senior Scientific Specialist, Geology to lead components of basic and appliedresearch in airborne geophysics projects, which include 3-D geological modelingand geophysics fieldwork.
Duties andResponsibilities :
Research - Data Analyses and Interpretation
- Coordinate and lead data management and 3-D geologic mapping / modeling.
- Coordinate and lead ground-based geophysics acquisition that includes both seismic and electrical methods.
- Utilize geographic information systems (GIS) and other computing technologies to visualize / analyze data and map geology in two and three dimensions.
- Supervise, mentor, and lead undergraduate students, graduate students, and hourly workers to achieve success and foster a culture of innovation and high-level performance at both individual and organizational levels.This includes task assignment, scheduling, ongoing performance management with coaching and feedback and travel approval.
- Assist with publishing results of investigations in venues including but not limited to peer-reviewed journal articles, internal publication series, public information pamphlets and posters, geological maps, web pages, scientific abstracts, and databases.

Minimum Qualifications
Required : Bachelor'sdegree in geology or related discipline. Alternate degree fields will be considered / accepteddepending on the nature and depth of the experience as it relates to thisposition. At least 2 years' relatedindustry or research experience with a bachelor's degree or an M.S. degree withno professional experience. Supervisoryand / or team leadership experience. Validdriver's license.
Preferred : M.S. degree in geology orrelated discipline. Demonstrated expertise and leadership in ground-basedgeophysics acquisition, specifically electrical resistivity tomography, passiveseismic methods, time-domain electromagnetics, and seismic reflection. Demonstrated leadership in managingundergraduate student geophysics field crews. Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in 3-D geologic mapping andmodeling software, including GeoScene3D and other GIS applications.
Knowledge,Skills, and Abilities
Knowledgeand efficiency in 3-D geological mapping principles and methods. Advanced experience / knowledge of geographicinformation systems (GIS). Knowledge andexperience in 3-D geologic mapping / modeling software, including GeoScene3D andgeophysical processing software such as Res2DInv and SPIA. Knowledge of major geologic frameworks ofIllinois, including sand and gravel aquifer systems.
Environmental Demands
This position willinvolve working in the office and field settings. Fieldwork will sometimes require working inadverse conditions (inclement weather, biting insects, remoteness, sites withsecurity concerns, heavy traffic) and traveling up to 25% of the time(including driving to and from research sites) throughout the state of Illinoisin both rural and urban settings. Will sometimes require overnight travel forup to one work week at a time. Will require operating, lifting, andmanipulating field equipment and other items over uneven terrain weighing up to40 pounds.
Appointment Information
This is a full-time academicprofessional appointment. Thebudgeted amount for this position is $63,000 to $73,000. The salary iscompetitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while alsoconsidering internal equity. It is not typical for an individual to beoffered a salary at or near the top of the full range for a position.
