What are the responsibilities and job description for the College Success Coach position at University of Indianapolis?
The primary purpose of the College Success Coach position is to provide comprehensive support to the University of Indianapolis' 21st Century Scholars, fostering their academic success and personal development. This role involves building strong relationships with scholars and providing mentoring to ensure their holistic growth. The College Success Coach will work to measurably increase the retention and engagement of 21st Century Scholars at the University of Indianapolis by facilitating high-impact programming and by both reactive and proactive initiatives. Responsibilities of this position include assisting in the day-to-day operations of the Academic Success Center and implementing and managing the UIndy Campus Connectors Program for the benefit of 21st Century Scholars. With each of these programs, the College Success Coach will work closely with the Director of First Year Programs and Retention Strategy as well as the Vice President of Student Experience, Success and Belonging and other essential offices on campus, including but not limited to Financial Aid, Student Affairs, Academic Advisors, and the Registrar. This position will directly report to the Director of First Year Programs and Retention Strategy.

Responsibilities- College Success Coach
- Increase student retention and success by developing and implementing on-campus
programming specifically tailored to 21st Century Scholars' needs - Work with the Director of First Year Programs in the day-to-day operations of the Academic Success Center as it advocates for Scholars who find themselves struggling to "connect the dots" across the web of support
- Engage and mentor Scholars by providing guidance and support throughout their academic journey
- Coordinate and conduct individual and group meetings to address Scholars' academic and personal concerns
- Maintain regular and consistent communication with scholars to ensure their progress and well-being
- Provide success and academic strategies to help Scholars achieve their goals
- Create and facilitate workshops on career preparation, financial literacy, and academic
success - Monitor and track scholars' academic performance, including midterm and final grades
- Ensure scholars meet scholarship eligibility requirements, such as credit hour completion, state FAFSA completion, and Satisfactory Academic Progress
- Assist in data collection for semi-annual progress reports, documenting volunteer mobilization and Scholar participation
- Organize networking events, leadership development programs, and civic engagement
activities to foster scholars' personal growth - Collaborate with the Director of First Year Programs and Retention Strategy to support year-round programming for Scholars
- Participate in freshmen registration activities by providing informational sessions and assistance to incoming scholars
- Establish communication with potential UIndy 21st Century Scholars in collaboration with the Admissions department
- Attend and actively engage in relevant trainings, orientations, and professional development opportunities
- Assist the Student Affairs Office in monitoring Bench Enrollment by conducting outreach to students and assisting in removing barriers that may impede their registration for the following semester
- Be responsible for disseminating emergency funds for 21st Century Scholars’ needs
- Connect students to needed resources on physical, financial, social, and emotional needs. (Student Counseling, UIndy Food Pantry, etc.)
- Maintain and enhance the UIndy Campus Connectors Program, which will establish a support network for identified at-risk 21st Century Scholars.
- Monitor retention efforts of 21st Century Scholars through the KSM predictive retention model, as well as a case management system (Slate)
- Identify key players on UIndy's campus to serve as Campus Connectors Leads and Coaches for the welcome week SLAY experience for 21st Century Scholars.
- Implement interventions for all student concerns identified by Campus Connectors and Leads / Coaches.
- Work collaboratively with areas to create programming that is culturally relevant and supportive.
- Engage students in programming that increases their cultural capital regarding their college success.
- Extend programming beyond SLAY Welcome Week to maintain connections between 21st Century Scholars and their House (Leads/Coaches and Mentors)
- Bachelor's Degree required
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a higher education setting preferred.
- Experience working to improve the experience of underrepresented populations in educational environments
- Proven track record of collaborating across various departments and levels within a complex organization and with community partners
- Evidence of leading projects to successful completion with measured outcomes
- Thorough understanding of protected classes as described by Federal law.
