The University of Indianapolis Human Identification Center, operating within the Biology Department, is seeking a full-time Predoctoral Scholar to support forensic anthropology operations. This one-year appointment is renewable based on job performance, funding availability, and departmental needs.
The Predoctoral Scholar will coordinate the forensic anthropology caseload, assist in field recoveries and laboratory operations, support student training, and ensure accurate reporting and evidence handling. This is a unique opportunity to work directly with forensic cases and contribute to the Center’s applied forensic efforts across Indiana and beyond.

The Predoctoral Scholar will coordinate the forensic anthropology caseload, assist in field recoveries and laboratory operations, support student training, and ensure accurate reporting and evidence handling. Responsibilities
- Coordinate forensic anthropology caseloads and assist with field recoveries
- Process and analyze human remains, including skeletal and decomposing cases
- Supervise undergraduate and graduate student assistants in lab settings
- Submit DNA samples to CODIS and private laboratories
- Maintain detailed reports, case records, and chain of custody documentation
- Support community outreach, law enforcement collaboration, and courtroom readiness
- Perform general office and operational tasks related to the Center’s mission
Required:
- Master’s degree (or near completion) in human biology, anthropology, or related field
- Experience in forensic osteology and forensic archaeology
- Valid U.S. driver’s license
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated leadership and teamwork abilities
- Comfort working with diverse individuals and agencies
- Experience in a forensic anthropology laboratory
- Experience with decomposing remains and soft tissue processing
- Training in human anatomy and pathology
- Completed archaeological field school
- Experience mentoring students in a lab setting
- Experience with field and specimen photography
- Understanding of or experience with the U.S. judicial system
