Job Description
A full-time staff psychologist has responsibility for providing mental health services to clients including counseling, psycho-education, group counseling, crisis intervention, and consultative services to students, parents, and university community members. Additionally, this position has significant involvement in supervision and training activities for our doctoral practicum students, shared responsibility for maintenance of the counseling center website as well as other potential duties as assigned by the Director of the Counseling Center and related to the Center’s programs and mission.
REQUIREMENTS/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience
- Minimum two years of university counseling center experience
- Prior supervisory/training experience with doctoral students (can include APA- accredited internship experience)
- Demonstrated awareness, value and experience in culturally responsive mental health practice
Education
- PsyD or PhD in Counseling or Clinical Psychology from an APA-accredited program
Licenses/Certifications/Credentials
- Licensure in the state of Indiana or license-eligibility within one year of employment
- HSPP within one year of employment if hired prior to licensure
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Includes supervisory responsibilities within pre-doctoral practicum training program.
Clinical Services
- Provide culturally competent counseling and consultation
- Perform assessments and provide individual, group, and couples counseling to students
- Provide walk-in services and crisis intervention
- Collaborate with nurse practitioners and office physician when appropriate in cases requiring services of both the counseling center and health services
- Adhere to professional ethics standards established by the American Psychological Association and to professional regulations as mandated by State of Indiana licensing board
- Provide supervision and/or training to clinical graduate students in the field of mental health and participating in the counseling center practicum training program.
Outreach & Consultation Services
- Engage in third-party consultation with faculty, staff, families, students, and others about mental health concerns impacting students
- Provide in-service training to the residence directors and resident assistants on issues related to mental health
- Assist with outreach development, campus presentations, and implementation
- Work collaboratively with staff in other departments to identify student needs and develop or facilitate mental health programming or services to those in need
- Serve on committees as appropriate or as requested by Director of Counseling, Vice President for Student Experience, Success & Belonging, Provost, or President of the University Administrative and support
- Develop and facilitate psychoeducation and outreach partnerships
- Complete documentation and case management and enter appropriate, accurate, and timely information into electronic management system of client records
- Maintain awareness of current research and best practices in university counseling centers
- Consult and collaborate with other disciplines in the delivery of total client/patient care
- Maintain legal, ethical, and moral standards of mental health care using sound clinical judgment
- Assist with update and maintenance of UIndy Student Counseling Center website
