The University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry is currently recruiting a Tenure Track Assistant Professor. The candidate will join a progressive and growing psychiatry department. The overall philosophy of this academic department cutting edge research in a comprehensive patient-centered care in our inpatient and outpatient settings, in a variety of unique subspecialty practice settings within our healthcare system.



Appointment will be on a tenure track, assistant professor level rank. The position is a 1.0 FTE. This research position will be focused on translational clinical neuroscience. Key neuroscience tools that are used include neuroimaging, neuropsychological testing, experimental cognitive neuroscience tasks, mechanisms of brain function and behavior in patient derived cells/tissues and/or animal models as they relate to neuropsychiatric disorders and substance use disorders.



The UI Department of Psychiatry has a long tradition of excellence in research, a well-developed research infrastructure, and ample patient populations that support efforts in a variety of areas of investigation. These include studies in neuroimaging, genetics, epidemiology, psychopharmacology, neuropsychology, and basic neuroscience. The Department of Psychiatry is made up of more than 90 full-time faculty members who provide national and international leadership across a range of psychiatric areas, such as child psychiatry, neuropsychiatry, eating disorders, mood disorders, psychotic disorders, medical psychiatry, and community psychiatry.

Education Requirement:

  • Applicants must have a doctoral degree (ex. PhD, MD, or MD/PhD)

Required Qualifications:

  • Must have evidence of scholarly work in basic, clinical, or translational neuroscience.

  • The candidate must demonstrate excellent track record in research including publishing and an ability to obtain grant funding.

  • Candidate must be able to work in a collaborative environment with other scientists and researchers.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
