The University of Iowa Hospital Downtown Campus - is seeking a Coordinator, Pathology Quality Assurance for the Pathology team. In this position you will: Design, organizes, and coordinates informatics and quality system program activities for the Department of Pathology at University of Iowa Health Care Medical Center Downtown campus. Leads the evaluation and implementation of quality assurance programs and ensures compliance with organizational policies and regulatory and accrediting agencies.

Position Responsibilities
Develops and participates in educational training for ancillary testing staff:

• Reviews accreditation standards (Joint Commission and CAP) and leads discussion about standard interpretation.
• Reviews the accreditation inspection process and prepares staff for responding to questions.
• Trains staff on use proper use of the instrumentation and documentation of quality control.
• Assists w ith training and competency for providers performing microscopy procedures (PPM) such as urine sediment, wet mount s, and Fern testing.

Education Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited college or university with specialized training in laboratory medicine, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience Requirements

• Reasonable (1-3 years) clinical laboratory experience in a CLIA-certified laboratory.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Valid Driver's License, plus the ability to meet the University of Iowa Fleet Safety Program driving standards (University of Iowa Operations Manual Part V, Chapter 19).
• Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment with effective leadership skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, to meet deadlines efficiently, to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and to be highly self-motivated.

Desired Qualifications

• Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or a categorical/specialist certification in a laboratory discipline from American Society for Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).
• Experience with instrumentation validation, troubleshooting and maintenance.
• Knowledge of the regulations and accrediting standards of the following agencies: CMS, Joint Commission and/or CAP
