What are the responsibilities and job description for the Graduate Program Coordinator - Creative Writing position at University of Iowa Health Care Health System?
The Department of Creative Writing in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences is searching for a Graduate Program Coordinator . The Graduate Program Coordinator will serve as a primary resource for 90 MFA students in the Program of Creative Writing. Facilitates the admissions process, oversees funding and teaching assignments, serves as the academic advisor for all graduate students, and processes paperwork from the application process through graduation. Responsible for graduate student contracts and budget tracking as well as liaising between graduate students and donors. Facilitates department-wide organizational meetings at the start of each semester and helps students organize events in the fall and spring.
This position is eligible for hybrid work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location .
Key Responsibilities
- Serves as graduate program liaison with faculty, staff, students, applicants, Graduate College, and Admissions Office.
- Facilitates thorough, meaningful, accurate review of ~1300 admissions manuscripts each year, answers applicant queries, onboards newly admitted students.
- Serves as primary advisor to 90 Creative Writing graduate students in poetry and fiction, ensures graduate students understand and complete all curriculum, thesis, and exam requirements and have the space and time for their creative work.
- Provides first-line support for graduate students navigating payroll, benefits, and compliance requirements and needs.
- Ensures that graduate student TAs receive adequate training, support and instruction from qualified support resources.
- Acts as the central voice of the program for graduate students and faculty, ensuring helpful, relevant, timely, accurate communication that supports the mission of the program.
- Manages with sensitivity and care communication about contracts and funding.
- Oversees, processes, and distributes student emergency funds in accordance with program policy and donor intent.
- Facilitates tracking and distribution of donor funds to meet program needs and donor requirements and support the mission of donor stewardship at the department.

Education Required
- A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Qualifications
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with an ear for discretion and diplomacy.
- Must be proficient in office software and able to understand and use university systems.
- Exceptional ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders.
- 3-5 years of work experience in a professional environment.
Desired Qualifications
- Some (6 months to 1 year) administrative experience.
- Knowledge of and interest in literature and the contemporary literary landscape.
- Working knowledge of University policies, procedures and regulations.
