Position Specific Summary:
The CWS Nurse Practice Leader for Stead Family Children's Hospital has healthcare systems, leadership, and quality improvement or patient safety experience. The CWS Nurse Practice Leader will monitor quality and safety outcome and process measures, supervise and support process workflows, analyze and report quality and patient safety data while fostering teamwork, high reliability methods, a robust safety culture, and champion service excellence. This position will support the design, implementation, and evaluation of change. This manager will support evidence-based practices, reduction of medical/health care errors and other factors contributing to unintended adverse outcomes under the direction of the Associate Director, CWS Nursing, Quality, Safety and EBP.
CWS Nurse Practice Leader, Stead Family Children's Hospital serves as a partner on the overall vision and design of the department and is responsible for the successful coordination and delivery of small-to-medium sized projects or a narrow, well-defined work stream of larger, more complex projects within approved budget, schedule, scope, and quality standards. The incumbent administers a project and throughout all phases of project; develops project plans; communication plans, maintains documentation; analyzes and identifies issues/risks; develops issue resolution and risk mitigation plans to maintain positive project health.
Key Areas of Responsibility
· Serve as a quality improvement leader by promoting and supporting use of QI principles, methods, and tools to improve processes and patient outcomes
· Identify clinical outcome and process compliance trends, prioritize, and recommend improvements
· Develop and support system-wide dashboards and scorecards incorporating clinical process and outcome metrics tailored to strategic or operational quality improvement and patient safety goals
· Design solutions to address opportunities based on benchmarking, networking, goal comparison, data analysis and corrective actions
· Provides guidance, facilitate, and work cooperatively with physicians/clinicians, administration, allied health, and support staff involved in the quality and performance improvement process to improve pediatric patient safety and clinical quality throughout the enterprise
· Lead and support a culture of patient safety, clinical improvement, and evidence-based practice, including appropriate process measures to decrease frequency and severity of patient safety events
· Assists with serious safety event review and root cause analysis, including subsequent action plan development, impletmentation, and evaluation
· Facilitates patient and family centered care while engaging parents and family in patient safety and quality improvement work
· Provide leadership for instruction and education of leadership and management in quality improvement and patient safety methodologies, including evidence-based change management
Percent of Time:100% - 40 hours per week
Schedule: Monday - Friday, day shift

Required Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Nursing or related field is required.
- Current license to practice nursing in Iowa
- Minimum 3-5 years' experience in Children's or Women's nursing
- Previous experience collaborating with and leading individuals and teams to improve patient care outcomes including leading change and implementation of new programs across interprofessional teams
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Power Point, and Excel is required
- Ability to format tables, retrieve data via queries, and create presentations via PowerPoint
- Demonstrated excellent communication skills, both written and verbal are required
- Demonstrated experience with data collection, management, and simple analysis
- Demonstrated leadership competencies including flexibility and adaptability to changing situations and priorities
- Ability to work collaboratively with health care professionals at all levels to achieve goals and improve quality outcomes
- Conflict resolution and mediation skills
- Ability to work with minimal supervision in a stressful environment
- Serve as a change agent; coordinate or lead change process including implementation of EBP
- Demonstrates ability to understand and deliver care in a complex and diverse environment
- Experience role modeling service excellence principles/standards
- Strong investigative, analytical, and critical thinking skills
- Ability to develop and present educational programs
- Role models professional practice and has reputation for clinical and service excellence
Desired Qualifications:
- Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPPS or CPHQ)
- Clinical and leadership experience in large academic medical center.
- Experience working in a union environment
- Member/active participation in professional organization
