What are the responsibilities and job description for the Physician Assistant - Department of Psychiatry position at University of Iowa Health Care Health System?
The Department of Psychiatry at Iowa Health Care is seeking a Physician Assistant to perform direct patient care including psychiatric diagnostic evaluations and medication management services with physician supervision across multiple settings including outpatient clinics, crisis observation units, and emergency services. Qualified candidates are eligible for a sign-on bonus up to $10,000. Internal candidates are not eligible for sign-on bonus. This position may be eligible for a relocation allowance. The Physician Assistant will help in educating healthcare students, residents, and fellows as they rotate through the respective departments and divisions as well as with research endeavors as appropriate.
Iowa Health Care provides both hospital and clinic based psychiatric services across the lifespan. Clinical assignment opportunities exist throughout the department of psychiatry and will be based upon departmental need, clinical expertise, and personal preference.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Supervision
Receives supervision and direction from APP Lead in Psychiatry and daily supervision is received from faculty assigned to the clinic each day. Receives clinical supervision through collaborative practice agreement. May exercise functional supervision over support staff.
Percent of Time: 75 - 100%
Staff Type: Allied Health Professional
Education
Must comply with registration and licensure requirements as specified by the Iowa Board of Physician Assistant Examiners which include graduation from an accredited PA educational program and/or certification by the NCCPA.
Required Qualifications
Demonstrated clinical experience in Psychiatry is required.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
Ability to work well in a team environment and maintain flexibility within a changing clinical environment
Evidence of ability to function with a high degree of independence while actively collaborating with health care members providing care for highly complex patients
Desired Qualifications
Physician Assistant post-graduate training in psychiatry.
Knowledge of University of Iowa policies and procedures.
Experience working with adults in a psychiatric setting
Experience with multi-disciplinary process improvement.
