Sr. Behavioral Health Clinician - GME

The Sr. Behavioral Health Clinician will work with the Directors of GME Well-Being to provide confidential clinical services (individual psychotherapy, initial consultation, resource and referral) and outreach to University of Iowa Health Care resident and fellow physicians at the UI Health Care Medical Center on the University Campus. Graduate Medical Education serves approximately 900 resident and fellow physicians.

Specific Job Duties and Tasks

  • Provide confidential psychotherapy services to resident and fellow physicians (take history, make assessment and diagnosis, plan and perform therapeutic intervention)
  • Collaborate in planning and delivering psycho-educational outreach programs to trainees, departments, faculty/staff
  • Provide crisis intervention assistance
  • Make referrals as necessary
  • Seek clinical consultation as needed
  • Maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with resident and fellow physicians and GME program leaders
  • Identify barriers to care and work to improve processes and support systems for the well-being of our resident and fellow physicians
  • Propose, participate in, and implement initiatives involved in resident and fellow well-being

Professional and Scientific Pay Structures | University Human Resources - The University of Iowa

Education Required:

  • Doctoral degree in either Counseling or Clinical Psychology from an APA-accredited program OR Master's degree in Social Work with a clinical focus from a CSWE-Accredited program

Required Qualifications:

  • Psychologist: Possession of a valid State of Iowa license as a psychologist within 18 months of hire. Social Worker: Licensed as an LISW or LMSW in the State of Iowa by date of hire. License must be maintained as a condition of continued employment.
  • Considerable direct clinical behavioral care provision is required; typically demonstrated by a minimum of 3-5 years of clinical practice experience
  • Experience conducting risk assessments
  • Experience in providing evidence-based interventions
  • Experience formulating diagnostic conclusions and treatment plans utilizing criteria from the DSM-5 TR
  • Evidence of collaboration, collegiality, professionalism, and positive professional relationships
  • Knowledge of mandatory reporting statutes and processes in the state of Iowa

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience providing mental health services to healthcare professionals
  • Experience with grief, loss, and trauma
  • Experience with specific mental health populations (i.e., substance use, eating disorders, etc.)
  • Training and experience in individual and group assessment instruments, crisis intervention, psychological first aid, and critical incident stress debrief
  • Familiarity with Graduate Medical Education and/or experience providing behavioral health services within a Graduate Medical Education environment
