Staff Nurse - Organ Transplant Center (100%)

University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is seeking 100% Staff Nurse to work for the Organ Transplant Center.

Duties to include:

  • · Collaborates and integrates contributions of patients and families into multidisciplinary patient care plan

    · Implements nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Follows universal precautions

    · Implements emergency care procedures in potential or actual emergencies according to departmental policies, procedures, and protocols

    · Maintains skills/competency related to special equipment, medications, and procedures common to the patient population of the program

    · Assumes responsibility for care provided by self and other staff members under the nurse's direction

    · Train to access central lines for clinic lab draws as needed

    · Educate and assist patients in clinic seen for vascular access procedures, including pre-and post-operative PD catheter placement, AV graft revisions, etc.

    · Assist with minor room procedures on transplant patients

    · Assist with peripheral lab draws and lab draws from IV's in clinic

    · Complete pre-operative education for non-hepatobiliary (HPB) and other non-living donor surgeries. Ex: hernia repairs, nephrectomies, feeding tube placement, etc. on pre- and post-transplant patients

    · Complete required PEC (Presurgical Evaluation Clinic) screening calls, including for living donors, pre-kidney living donor recipients, vascular access patients, HPB patients, other pre-surgical patients (nephrectomy, feeding tube, hernia repair, etc).

    · Complete pre-operative Infection Screening calls for all patients

    · Complete bladder scanning and catheterization as needed on patients in clinic

    · Assist in giving medications and immunizations in clinic as needed

    · Complete suture removal and wound care in clinic as needed

    · Complete and send FMLA paperwork for patients, including pre- and post- transplant recipients, HPB patients, vascular access patients, etc.

    · Assist with clinic patient check-in workflow as needed

    · Collaborate with transplant multidisciplinary team including medical assistants, transplant nurse coordinators, social workers, medical doctors, surgeons, pharmacists, and financial coordinators to provide excellent patient care

    · Appropriately document clinical care provided in clinic using Iowa Health Care, Department of Nursing, and Organ Transplant Center policies and procedures

    · Participate in process improvement efforts within the department as assigned by program leadership

    · Complete patient prior authorizations for ordered testing as instructed

    · Other duties as required and assigned by program leadership

Percent of Time: 100% / 40 hours a week Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00 am-4:30 pm. This position will participate in the late rotation to ensure patient care needs are met if patient remains in clinic after business hours. No call, no weekends, and no holidays.
Salary: $ 60,589 minimum at 100% effort to commensurate. Salary will be based on years of experience and percent effort.

Education

  • An Associate's Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader or a Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required.

Required Qualifications
  • Current license to practice in the state of Iowa by the time of hire.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

  • Reasonable (1 or more years) nursing experience is preferred.

  • General computer skills are required.

  • Must be able to work well in a team is a valuable skill.

Desired Qualifications
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or Masters Degree in Nursing is highly desired.

  • If Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is not yet obtained, active enrollment in a BSN program is desirable.

  • Demonstrated experience in specific clinical area of practice (transplant) is preferred.
