Position Summary :
The Associate Director for Leadership and Engagement provides administrative, operational, and fiscal oversight for major University-wide recognized student organizations that are responsible for providing cultural, recreational, and entertainment-oriented programming, including Campus Activities Board (CAB), Family Weekend, SCOPE Productions, Bijou, and Homecoming Council. This position is also responsible for promoting, coordinating, and evaluating on- and off-campus social programs and activities, with a primary focus on late night, weekend programming. Leads and develops Leadership & Engagement's Engagement Advising program and assists with the development, and supports Lecture Committee, Excelling@Iowa, Hawkeye Engage, and other Division of Student Life programs. Provides leadership and supervision for the Dance Marathon program and staff members. Supervises the coordinator for Student Activities and Programming. Leads the Student Engagement & Campus Programs team meetings and serve as a member of the Leadership & Engagement Leadership Team. Serves as the Leadership and Engagement representative to the IMU Leadership Team. May be responsible for supporting and implementing the Iowa GROW program with student employees as a part of our commitment to student success.
Specific Job Duties & Tasks :
- Supervise and / or advise individual students and assigned student organizations in the co-curricular setting, based on student development theory. Provide training for students in the areas of leadership, programming, and finances.
- Act as facilitator and program presenter for recognized student organizations, University departments, and affiliated organizations / conferences as appropriate.
- Communicate, interpret, and enforce applicable University policies.
- Assist student organizations in policy / procedure development and implementation.
- Serve as the assessment coordinator for the Student Engagement and Campus Programs (SECP) team.
- Continue the development and assessment of student life and campus activities programming to enhance student learning and achievement, both in and outside the classroom.
- Assist coordinator for Student Activities and Programming as needed with advising SCOPE Productions (concert promotion / production organization) including concert planning and production, advising the Board of Directors on the organization, implementation, and evaluation of SCOPE concerts, coordinating Board of Directors transition and retreats; and supporting the coordinator as the as the liaison between SCOPE Productions and the Iowa Memorial Union as well as other campus and community entities (Recreational Services, off campus venues, etc.).
- Serve as primary advisor to UI Homecoming Council; advise the Executive Council on the organization, implementation, and evaluation of Homecoming programs and activities under Council purview; coordinate Executive Council and council member retreats; serve as the University's liaison with City officials and with campus and local law enforcement agencies regarding the Homecoming Parade.
- Serve as a chair of the On Iowa! Late Night Committee and serve on the OnIowa! Kickoff at Kinnick Committee.
- Meet and collaborate with university officials (e.g., Office of Admissions, University of Iowa Center for Advancement, Marketing and Design, Iowa Memorial Union, Recreational Services, Intercollegiate Athletics, Orientation Services, University Housing & Dining) and community leaders to discuss various aspects of student life and campus activities programming.
- Perform human resource functions including recruiting, interviewing, selection, training, performance evaluation, salary determination, promotion, and disciplinary action for SECP, Dance Marathon, and associated services and programs
- Supervise graduate assistants, practicum students, and student hourly employees as assigned.
- Serve as chair of the Campus Events Funding allocation committee, conducting all meetings and allocation activities of the funding; serve as primary contact for student organizations wishing to apply or which have received funding; maintain survey data and evaluation / assessment for each event.
- Serve as co-chair of the Late-Night Programming Fund and assist with monitoring and managing late night programming events.
