Position Summary : The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (Dr. Anthony Pedley's lab) is seeking a 100%-time Research Assistant, who will work in a research laboratory that uses a combination of biochemical, molecular biology, and microscopy techniques to study the regulation of purine metabolism . The successful applicant will be responsible for generating and interpretating experimental data, adapting new experiments protocols, and assisting in daily operations in the laboratory.
Type of Position : Specified term. Initial appointment is for one year. Appointment may be extended based on performance and availability of funding.
Position Responsibilities :
Research
- Perform research activities based upon protocols developed by other research staff or principal investigators of the research project
- Collaborate with a team of researchers at the University of Iowa, across the United States, and internationally
- Read and review manuscripts on topics relevant to ongoing projects
Experiments, Investigations, Evaluations
Collect, Analyze, and Summarize Data; Prepare Reports : Contribute to Manuscripts, Publications

Qualifications
Education Requirements Bachelor's degree or higher in STEM field.
Experience Requirements Prior experience in mammalian cell culture, microscopy, and basic molecular biology techniques such as PCR, Western blotting, and molecular cloning

Research Knowledge of formal methodologies, tools and techniques for conducting research, studies and tests.
Research Analysis Knowledge of and the ability to locate, interpret and evaluate research findings compiled and documented by others and use this material to support empirical research.
Research Documentation
Knowledge of and ability to utilize tools and techniques for producing well-written, meaningful and usable documentation of research findings.
Research Ethics / Compliance
Knowledge of practices, behaviors, applicable laws, rules, and regulations governing proper research conduct; ability to demonstrate ethical and compliant behavior in diverse situations.
Research Safety
Knowledge of the procedures and programs in place in the organization to ensure employee, student and subject safety (occupational safety, fire, patient, animal, drug, radiation, environmental safety and emergency plans); ability to train others; ability to take appropriate actions in case of emergency.
