The Auditory Research Lab and Hearing Aid & Aging Research Lab in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders have an outstanding opportunity for a full-time Research Assistant / Project Manager to support research activities in the two labs.
The Research Assistant / Project Manager will support two five-year, multi-site, longitudinal research projects : one focused on measurement of distortion-product otoacoustic emissions (DPOAEs; soft sounds generated by the inner ear, Principal Investigator : Shawn Goodman, PhD) and the other focused on factors influencing patient outcomes with over-the-counter hearing aids (Principal Investigator : Yu-Hsiang Wu, PhD).
Primary responsibilities will include participant recruitment, coordinating lab schedules for data collection, managing data, scheduling study appointments, conducting audiological tests and brief interviews, overseeing participant communications, processing payments and reminders, and assisting with other research tasks as needed. The position is part of a collaborative team comprising the Principal Investigators (PIs), staff members, graduate students, and undergraduates.
This is a two-year specified term position with the possibility of extension for up to a total of five years.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Principal Investigator (PI) and other researchers in maintaining IRB approvals and modifications. Implement IRB protocols and ensure compliance by the research team; maintain documentation for compliance purposes.
- Coordinate human subject recruitment and serve as the primary contact for potential participants, managing communications via phone or email.
- Maintain databases and submit data to federal data-sharing sites.
- Participate in quality assurance, fidelity of implementation, and data monitoring processes.
- Administer various study activities, including hearing tests, self-report assessments, and brief scripted interviews.
- Learn basic operation of hearing test equipment and computer programs used to run such tests.
- Maintain inventory of lab and office supplies, ordering as needed.
- Supervise undergraduate research assistants, collaborate with other lab members (postdocs, graduate students, and staff) as needed, and assist in training new lab members.
