The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Downtown Campus intends to hire for two positions at either the Imaging Technologist classification or Senior Imaging Technologist, based on the qualifications of the successful candidate. The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Downtown Campus Department of Radiology is seeking a Senior Imaging Technologist or an Imaging Technologist t o work with physicians in the diagnosis of patients by performing special radiographic technical procedures.
University of Iowa Health Care Medical Center Downtown (located at 500 E. Market Street, Iowa City, IA) is a 194-bed hospital that became part of Iowa's only comprehensive academic health system on Jan. 31, 2024.
Additional Duties :
- Assists physicians with imaging procedures.
- Completes required continuing education as needed in order to maintain ARRT and Iowa Permit to Practice.
- Interviews patients and records medical history relative to radiologic procedures. Assesses patient's physical state and assess I.V. needs or other required safeguards.
- Maintains equipment in the work area and reports faulty equipment.
- Operates radiographic imaging equipment in the department and O.R.; practices radiation safety and protection.
- Prepares sterile trays for special procedures and assists physician with special procedures and associated equipment i.e. guide-wires, catheters, drains, dressings, etc.
- Identifies, accesses, and prepares medication as prescribed by a licensed practitioner. Prepares and assists with or administers contrast materials, including opaque media, contrast media and barium, while adhering to patient safety goals.
- Prepares patients for invasive special procedures (including vascular procedures not done in Cath Lab) and determines technical factors to be used for radiographs, and procedures. Adjusts technical factors and procedures according to the age and condition of the patient.
- Provides for the care and protection of patients, assuming care for their emotional, psychological and physical needs while adhering to the Joint Commission Patient Safety Goals.
- Provides necessary clerical support, such as completing requisitions, filing etc.
- Assists in moving patient from transportation mode to x-ray tables.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Percent of Time : 100%
Schedule : 1st shift, rotating holidays and on call
Pay Grade : 5
The department will be filling this position at one of two levels. The Imaging Technologist classification salary is 4, and the Senior Imaging Technologist classification salary is 5.
