The University of Iowa Health Care, Department of Pharmaceutical Care, is seeking a full-time Senior Pharmacy Technician to join our Children's Hospital inpatient team. Under general supervision by a pharmacist, the Senior Pharmacy Technician performs activities associated with supporting SFCH pharmacy services including assisting with technician training programs, monitoring compliances with established policies and procedures, inventory control and special projects. The Senior Pharmacy Technician coordinates the daily functions of pharmacy technicians to meet service needs as identified by the pharmacist and provides supervision to Pharmacy Technicians. The Senior Pharmacy Technician may provide instruction, evaluate performance, and follow up on training needs. They are responsible for coordinating maintenance of area equipment and facility, ordering supplies, and handling / disposition of records, as well as documentation of quality assurance activities. This position will check products prepared by other technicians, as permitted by Iowa law and assists with implementation of new services and / or development of new procedures. This position will assist with interviewing technician candidates and checking references, provides input on evaluation of technician candidates. Provides classroom instruction to new technicians in the absence of the Technician Supervisor / trainer. Assists with inventory management and medication recall activities. Checks products prepared by other technicians, as permitted by Iowa law. Maintains competency and performs all duties and responsibilities of Pharmacy Technician. This position will work our PM shift which will include 8 hours shifts scheduled between the hours of 2 : 30 pm - 11 : 30, working rotating weekends.
Position Possibilities :
- Assists with preparation and maintenance of aseptic technique training program
Maintain a current training manual that reflects policy and procedures related to aseptic technique
Collect and evaluate data related to aseptic technique competence of staff pharmacists and technicians
Fingertip sampling
Assist with ordering of supplies
Communicate to staff necessary information regarding drug shortages
Coordinate supply chain
Develop new forms and distribute information to staff
Maintain working knowledge of pharmacy technology
Assist with preparing needed training and orientation materials
Participate in piloting new programs
Participates in schedule preparation in coordination with the technician supervisor
Supervision
Senior Certified Pharmacy Technician
Day-to-day general supervision is provided by the Pharmacy Manager and Technician Supervisor. The Technician Supervisor approves vacation or other leave approval and coordinates other schedule needs.
The Pharmacist in-charge of the pharmacy provides functional supervision for patient care responsibilities.
