The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Supply Chain Department is seeking a Supply Chain Coordinator Educator. The individual in this role will oversee the daily operations of supply chain management within the Main Operating Room / Sterile Core, ensuring smooth coordination of activities related to procurement, inventory management, vendor relationships, and staff supervision. The role will also include the primary responsibility of training, onboarding, and orienting new hires, working closely with the Supply Chain Specialist (Educator). The position involves managing supplies and equipment, resolving customer concerns, and using various software tools like Microsoft Excel, SPM, and Tableau for tracking supplies and instruments. The individual will play a key role in ensuring that new staff are successfully integrated into the department and trained in supply chain processes and systems.

This position will be responsible for serving as educational resource within the Supply Chain Department.

Duties will include :

Training and Orientation :

  • Train and onboard new staff in supply chain processes, procedures, and systems, ensuring that they understand operational standards and workflows.
  • Collaborate with the Supply Chain Specialist (Educator) to develop and deliver training programs tailored to new hires.
  • Conduct orientation sessions to familiarize new employees with the hospital's policies, departmental functions, and safety protocols.
  • Provide ongoing support and mentorship to new staff during their initial period to ensure they are well-prepared for their roles.

Supply Chain Management :

  • Oversee the procurement and delivery of goods and services required for hospital operations.
  • Coordinate daily operations of the supply chain in the operating rooms and sterile core areas.
  • Ensure efficient supply management by analyzing trends, managing inventories, and ensuring timely replenishment.
  • Product Research and Contract Management :

  • Conduct research on products and equipment, preparing specifications for procurement.
  • Support negotiations for contracts and pricing, monitoring terms and conditions.
  • Inventory Control :

  • Manage inventory, determine reorder amounts, and ensure accurate tracking of stock.
  • Assist with the acquisition of material resources and oversee inventory control procedures.
  • Vendor and Customer Relations :

  • Communicate and negotiate with vendors and suppliers to ensure appropriate product selection and favorable terms.
  • Resolve customer concerns related to supply chain issues.
  • Data Management and Reporting :

  • Utilize software tools to manage and assess inventory data, supporting improvements in inventory management practices.
  • Fiscal Management :

  • Manage budgets, oversee inventory investments, and contribute to budget development.
  • Make recommendations for operational policies and procedures to optimize efficiency and cost control.
  • Leadership and Staff Management :

  • Supervise staff, providing functional or administrative direction.
  • Offer feedback, coaching, and counseling to ensure the achievement of departmental goals.
  • Physical Demands :

  • Ability to move throughout the hospital, handle inventory, and transport heavy items (up to 25 pounds).
  • Ability to work with high / low shelving systems to manage inventory.

  • Qualifications

    Required Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • 6 months - 3 years of related supply chain experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite with an emphasis on Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, creating working relationships with team members such as providers, vendors, and staff.
  • Desirable Qualifications

  • Knowledge and / or experience with PeopleSoft, Purchase Requisitions, Epic, and Omnicell.
  • Knowledge of University Purchasing and Supply Chain.
  • Ability to effectively multi-task, keeping multiple initiatives moving forward simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of supply chain management and operational improvement in a hospital setting.
