The Research Associate will study neural plasticity and recovery in animal models of stroke and traumatic brain injury in the Cortical Plasticity Laboratory. Under the direction of PIs and other research staff, the Research Associate will conduct and oversee elements of research work that requires the use of skills, technical and academic knowledge to follow established procedures, and record results. Key Roles and Responsibilities :
- Oversee and coordinate the in vivo non-human primate work.
- Conducting behavioral training such as pole and collar training as well as motor training and trains all other lab members on NHP behavior.
- Organize and schedule activities / recording sessions in conjunction with the experimental design, do the animal care and use records and act as a liaison between our lab and LAR.
- Contribute to the processing, analysis and interpretation of data and contribute to manuscripts / grant proposals, etc.
- Maintain a current Laboratory Notebook, documenting all calculations, work, experiments, and other pertinent research information.
- Will perform training and research with live animal models and post-mortem samples.
- Draft technical reports based on collected data.
- Assist in experimental design and workflows to optimize data collection and analysis.
- Perform collaborative studies with other research laboratories at KUMC.
- Participate in maintaining day-to-day laboratory operation that includes ordering supplies, cleanup, routine animal maintenance, and maintenance of equipment.

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
