Job Description Summary:
A Research Technician position is immediately available for a highly motivated individual in the Brown Lab. The applicant will be responsible for performing research projects, day to day lab maintenance and assisting investigator/researchers as directed by the Principal Investigators. This will include but is not limited to purchasing of supplies/materials through the online Workday, managing and adhering timelines for project completion and collecting data to support the goals of the lab. The research is housed in modern laboratory space with state-of-the-art equipment and will build on a long history of innovative service to the KUMC research community.

Job Duties:
Perform general research experiments under the direction of the PI, including but not limited to:
Education: Associate degree in Biology, Cell Biology, Life Sciences, Chemistry, or a related field from an accredited institution or a High School diploma.
Work Experience:
Education: Bachelor’s degree [BA or BS] in Biology, Cell Biology, Life Sciences, Chemistry, Neuroscience or a related field from an accredited institution and associated experience in a basic science laboratory.
Work Experience:
Coverage begins on day one for health, dental, and vision insurance and includes health expense accounts with generous employer contributions if the employee participates in a qualifying health plan. Employer-paid life insurance, long-term disability insurance, and various additional voluntary insurance plans are available. The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.

- Assist all investigators/researchers in the lab on their research efforts including mouse colony management, animal care, surgery assistance and data collection.
- Participate in regular communication with the PIs via lab meetings and personal meetings.
- Position also includes generation of data and its analysis for the preparation of published papers, as well as assistance on grant submissions and other documentation necessary for laboratory compliance.
- Follow established quality control and quality assurance policies and procedures, including appropriate documentation.
- Perform other duties assigned by PI.
Education: Associate degree in Biology, Cell Biology, Life Sciences, Chemistry, or a related field from an accredited institution or a High School diploma.
Work Experience:
- Previous experience working with laboratory mice.
- 2 years of experience in a basic science laboratory.
Education: Bachelor’s degree [BA or BS] in Biology, Cell Biology, Life Sciences, Chemistry, Neuroscience or a related field from an accredited institution and associated experience in a basic science laboratory.
Work Experience:
- Previous experience with laboratory management.
- Experience in handling of laboratory animals and animal surgery, and mouse colony management.
