Job Duties Outlined :
Working with cultured and primary leukemia cells. Isolate mononuclear cells, prepare slides for immunofluroescence imaging, incubate cells for experiments under supervision.
Cell culture : Maintain cultured cell lines (adherent and suspension cultures) and establish stable clones after lenti viral infection. Screen and maintain stable gene clones for vitro models and work on animal models.
Molecular analyses such as Western blotting, RT-PCR and qPCR : Perform experiments under supervision to determine steady state levels of mRNA and proteins under investigation.
Fluorescent and confocal imaging : Perform fluorescent imaging and flow cytometric analyses under supervision. Perform data analysis and summarize results. Preparing manuscripts and posters.
Assist in ordering lab supplies and maintain inventories of reagents.
The Senior Research Associate would also occasionally help the faculty supervisor, work with other research associates, train junior students and technicians.
Interact on a regular basis with their faculty mentor and members of the laboratory to discuss experimental design and interpretation of results, and publish their results in abstracts, manuscripts, posters. The applicant should also interact with intramural and extramural faculty / scientists who are parts of (mentor-approved) collaborative efforts.
The Senior Research Associate will be expected to complete research projects under the guidance of the faculty supervisor, record and interpret the results of their experiments in a laboratory notebook, prepare publication-quality manuscripts (including figures and tables) and publish in peer-reviewed literature.
Autoclave tissue culture and molecular grade reagents for lab use.
Maintain lab records of all experiments conducted. Participate in lab meetings to discuss projects and provide feedback.

Required Qualifications :
Education :
Master's degree in Cell Biology or related field.
Work Experience :
Minimum 5 years lab experience; along with interest in cancer research. Experience in cell culture, cell and molecular biology and imaging.
Experience applying knowledge of hazards of laboratory activities and related safety practices, and contributing to the development of new and improved methodology.
Preferred Qualifications :
Education :
PhD in Cell Biology or related field.
Work Experience :
Previous experience working with mice is highly desirable.
Experience with Cell Imaging, qPCR, flow cytometry, lentiviral mediated gene knockdown, molecular cloning, protein expression and purification.
Skills :
Computer and research data analyzing skills.

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
