Supervision: Receives direct supervision from the General Manager; Supervises both full-time and part-time employees.
Key Responsibilities
Cooperation:
Fosters effective relationships to facilitate collaboration with other Union departments and employees.
Actively addresses and resolves conflicts among staff members to maintain a harmonious work environment.
Cost Consciousness:
Contributes to the planning and executing of business activities, including food production, staffing, customer service, sanitation, merchandising, and menu management.
Assists with inventory counting, control, and maintaining accurate records to ensure efficient resource management.
Customer Service:
Handles difficult or emotional customer/client situations with professionalism and empathy.
Solicits and utilizes customer feedback to enhance service and food quality.
Provides feedback to leadership regarding guest comments, staff complaints, equipment repair needs, and any emerging issues.
Job Knowledge:
Ensures food is prepared and presented in an appealing manner, maintaining high standards of product presentation and service areas.
Assists in maintaining a clean and sanitary environment in all food court, serving, dining, production, and storage areas.
Ensures that all signage (e.g., posters, table tents, menu signage) is current and accurate.
Managing People:
Upholds company policies and maintain accurate records of staff performance and attendance.
Oversees staff workstations and daily operations and provides training and supervision.
Reviews and ensures staff work adheres to established standards.
Offer regular performance feedback and support to employees.
Quality:
Follows KU Dining and unit standards for food preparation, presentation, service, and overall quality.
Ensures compliance with SERV Safe policies and proper cooking and holding temperatures.
Coordinates with leadership to address and resolve product or service quality issues.
Provides feedback and suggestions to management to enhance food quality.
Additional Responsibilities:
Enforces KU Dining policies with all staff members.
Manages assigned areas based on staffing levels and operational needs.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Abilities, & Skills:
Proficient in the use and maintenance of food production and service equipment.
Knowledge of business practices related to purchasing, inventory control, and cash handling.
Ability to obtain SERV Safe certification within six months of hire and familiarity with Kansas sanitation requirements.
Experience in supervising, training, and evaluating employees for efficient customer service.
Strong oral and written communication skills for addressing employee and customer concerns.
Flexibility to work varying schedules, including opening and closing shifts.
Physical capability to lift up to 40 lbs. and perform tasks involving walking, stooping, and bending.
Ability to assume operational responsibility in the absence of the Manager.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Minimum of 2-year experience in a fast-paced, high-volume food service environment.
Minimum of 1-year FOH supervisory experience with the ability to manage a diverse team.
Minimum of 2-year customer service experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
SERV Safe certification.
