Required Education | Qualified applicants will be UK Engineering students with junior or senior status in Spring 2025 Applicants should be in at least their fifth semester of their engineering curriculum. Preferred applicants will have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. (3.2 or higher considered) Priority will be given to Tau Beta Pi (Engineering honor society) members but other engineering students are strongly encouraged to apply. PLEASE NOTE: Only applications including a resume and transcript will be reviewed. |

Shift | Peer Tutors can expect to work between three and ten hours per week based on their availability and the needs of tutees. Peer Tutors’ schedules are determined at the beginning of each semester and will not change from week to week. Shifts will be between two and four hours long (again based on availability and student need) and will take place between 2:00 PM and 8:00 PM Sunday through Thursday. This position is for the Spring 2025 semester, and will begin in January 2025. |
Job Summary | Peer Tutors assist fellow undergraduates in UK math, science, and engineering courses through Tau Beta Pi’s Peer Tutoring Program in the Elbert E. Ray eStudio. There are no appointments and tutoring is offered in small, informal groups. Peer Tutors help tutees fully understand concepts, complete assignments, and study for exams. Peer Tutors are responsible for greeting tutees and making them feel welcome and included, providing guidance in course content, and helping tutees hone study skills and strategies. Peer Tutors guide tutees to deeper understandings of course material and are never expected to give answers or replace course instructors. Peer Tutors receive extensive training in preparation for being effective peer tutors, so no prior tutoring experience is needed. Initial training will be provided. Because the Peer Tutor position is a professional position, it includes responsibilities beyond working regular shifts, including professional development sessions, and occasional team meetings. At time of posting, we anticipate tutoring will be offered in-person in the eStudio on the 3rd floor of the F. Paul Anderson Tower. (if campus health circumstances mandate otherwise, tutoring will be moved online). PLEASE NOTE: Only applications including a resume and transcript will be reviewed. |
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities | Applicants should enjoy helping others and sharing their experiences as students of engineering. Applicants should have outstanding oral communication skills and be professional and timely. A thorough working knowledge of engineering coursework is also required. |
