Job Summary

Join Kentucky Children’s Hospital, home to the state’s only Level IV NICU and Pediatric Level I Trauma Center, and make a lasting impact on patients from neonatal to 17 years old. Primary Responsibilities

  • Deliver individualized psychosocial support and interventions to young patients and their families.
  • Use therapeutic play to prepare children for medical procedures, reducing fear and fostering understanding.
  • Advocate for the needs of children and families while collaborating with medical teams.
  • Evaluate patient progress and adjust interventions to ensure optimal support.
  • Provide education to patients, families, and staff about the role of child life in promoting resilience and development.

  • Requirements

  • Required Education : Bachelor’s degree in child life, child development, or a health-related field with a child life emphasis preferred
  • Certification : Must obtain Child Life Certification through the Association of Child Life Professionals within 18 months of hire
  • Experience : Completion of a child life internship under the supervision of a certified Child Life Specialist required
  • Skills : Strong communication, empathy, and the ability to connect with children and families during stressful situations

  • NICU Child Life Specialist : Monday through Friday, 8 : 00 AM to 4 : 30 PM
  • Peds ED Child Life Specialist : Sunday through Friday, 10-hour shifts, 1 : 00 PM to 11 : 30 PM
  • Behavioral Health Unit : Monday through Friday, 8 : 30 AM to 5 : 00 PM
  • Progressive Care / Inpatient : Sunday through Thursday, 8 : 00 AM to 4 : 30 PM
  • 4 West / Inpatient Hematology-Oncology : Monday through Friday, 8 : 00 AM to 4 : 30 PM
