This role includes direct personnel oversight, training, and supervision of research procedures related to dose administration, sample collection, and imaging. The employee will ensure adherence to health and safety requirements and regulatory compliance, playing a key role in study design, implementation, and execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise Research Resources personnel, including Research Coordinators, Research Associates, Pre-Clinical Technologists 1 & 2, and civil service positions.
- Oversee training, skill certification, and annual recertification of personnel to ensure competency in research methodologies and compliance with study protocols.
- Manage scheduling, in-life study activities, and ensure adherence to health and safety standards in study housing, research clinics, and imaging suites.
- Ensure compliance with NIRC Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), IACUC, IBC, Radiation Safety, and the Animal Welfare Act.
- Provide expert guidance on nonhuman primate (NHP) behavior, social housing, and environmental optimization to minimize stress and improve study outcomes.
- Troubleshoot procedural, housing, and animal-specific issues, reporting directly to the Study Director and implementing corrective actions as needed.
- Assist in research protocol development and ensure documentation meets regulatory requirements, including FDA Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
- Conduct and oversee diversified dose administration, sample collections, and test system observations for potential adverse effects.
- Perform imaging procedures, and assist in equipment validation, calibration, and preventative maintenance.
- Develop and review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to maintain research quality and compliance.
- Utilize specialized equipment such as apheresis machines, infusion pumps, and imaging technology to support research objectives.
- Ensure research is conducted in compliance with applicable Animal Laboratory Biosafety Levels, minimizing cross-contamination risks.
- Participate in the instruction of annual in-services and facilitate ongoing personnel development.
- Oversee a diverse range of research protocols, including pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, efficacy studies, and model development.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree and 5 years of relevant experience in a research facility as a lead worker, supervisor, and project lead (or equivalent) utilizing non-human primate animal models
- OR 10 years of relevant experience in a research facility as a lead worker, supervisor, and project lead (or equivalent) utilizing non-human primate animal models will substitute for the Bachelor’s degree.
- AALAS Technician certification (or equivalent )
- Advance knowledge in a field of science and relevant experience to independently conduct protocol mandated research procedures in nonhuman primate animal studies in an AAALAC-accredited facility
