Responsibilities
The Veterinary Research Postdoctoral Fellow will contribute to groundbreaking nonhuman primate (NHP) model studies at the New Iberia Research Center (NIRC), a $75 million AAALAC International-accredited biomedical research facility. Reporting to the Principal Investigator (P.I.) and Chief Scientific Officer, this grant-funded position will focus on evaluating the safety and efficacy of vaccine and cure strategies for infectious diseases, studying the pathology of emerging diseases, and advancing research methodologies in pathobiology and infectious disease. The fellow will gain hands-on experience in sample collection, imaging, drug administration, and data analysis while ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines.

Key Responsibilities
- Participate in nonhuman primate model studies focused on infectious disease research, vaccine efficacy, and cure strategies.
- Perform sample collections and surgical procedures on NHPs.
- Conduct imaging procedures, including advanced imaging techniques as part of research studies.
- Administer study drugs, vaccinations, and infectious agents to NHPs.
- Assist with necropsies, including tissue collection and pathological analysis.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines and adherence to study protocols.
- Formulate and prepare study drugs, viral dilutions, and research reagents.
- Assist in tissue processing and peripheral blood mononuclear cell preparation.
- Perform assays to measure immunological and virological parameters (training provided).
- Analyze research data, prepare scientific reports, and present findings.
- Contribute to manuscript preparation and research publications.
- Perform additional research-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- PhD, DVM, or equivalent degree in immunology or virology
- Excellent skills in sample collection, performing immunological assays, and knowledge of viral assay
- The candidate is expected to be able to learn and adapt new techniques, work independently and within a team.
- Excellent communication skills and attention to detail is a must.
