Responsibilities:
The Research Associate, Histology, will play a critical role in supporting the preparation, processing, and analysis of histological samples for research and diagnostic purposes. This position requires expertise in histological techniques, equipment operation, and laboratory management to ensure the highest quality standards. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate with other professionals, including veterinarians and researchers.
Key Responsibilities:
-Perform and assist with routine and non-routine histological activities, including:
-Sample accessioning and fixation
-Grossing, processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining
-Prepare reagents and solutions required for histology and general laboratory use.
-Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot histology equipment to ensure optimal functionality.
-Maintain inventory of histology and general laboratory supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels.
-Assist prosectors or veterinarians in acquiring gross tissues and preparing applicable sections.
-Prepare and ship histology and general laboratory specimens to alternate facilities for analysis or pathology review.
-Process,
evaluate, analyze, and document research and diagnostic samples in
additional laboratory disciplines, subject to skill certification.
-Maintain meticulous records of all laboratory procedures and sample analyses.
-Adhere to safety and quality assurance protocols, contributing to the overall efficiency and compliance of the laboratory.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
-Bachelor’s degree in Biology or related field with scientific emphasis
Preferred Qualifications:
-Previous
histology-related experience in biomedical research, diagnostic, or
academic laboratory including operation/ maintenance of histology
equipment, histological preparations for pathologist microscopic
evaluation and special staining of tissue samples in a regulated
environment.
Skills, Abilities, Etc.:
-Applicant must be able to independently utilize reference materials to dissect and process tissues for histologic processing.
-Demonstrate analytic and diagnostic reasoning skills.
-Develop,
review, and or revision of Standard Operating Procedures as necessary
to enable reconstruction of all histological and general laboratory
activities performed in a biomedical research environment.
-Strong computer skills are a must, as are skills in managing, planning, documenting and organizing multiple activities.
