What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Professor of Music position at University of Louisiana Monroe?
Teach music education courses at the undergraduate and graduate (summer only program) levels for music education majors, with a desired focus in secondary instrumental. Serve as academic advisor, supervise music education field experiences, serve as University Supervisor for student teachers, and develop local school partnerships along with other music education faculty. Participate in evaluation of curriculum and implementation of research-based pedagogies in music education program. Supervise Summer MME Capstone research projects. Engage in programs and school recruitment activities. Maintain an active research/creative activity agenda. Other duties, including ensemble conducting responsibilities, based on candidate’s background, abilities, and expertise.
The successful candidate will start the tenure-track position in August 2025 with additional summer employment beginning in June for the Summer MME.
This is a full time, nine-month, tenure-track position.
- PhD in Music Education from an accredited institution (completed by August 2025), emphasis in instrumental music education.
- Evidence of a minimum of 3 years of successful public or private school teaching experience.
- Experience establishing positive relationships with campus and community partners and public schools.
- Experience establishing positive relationships with professional music organizations.
- Record of research, publication, and presentation in areas of music education.
- Evidence of university-level instruction of pre-service teachers.
- Evidence of successful instrumental conducting experience.
- Experience in general music methodologies (Orff Schulwerk, Kodaly Method, etc.)
- Experience recruiting for university-level music education programs.
- Experience with instructional technology.
Salary : $55,000 - $60,000
