Groundskeeper

The University of Lynchburg, a private regional university, located in the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in central Virginia is seeking a full-time Groundskeeper to join our Groundskeeping team.

Job Type: Full-Time, Benefits Eligible

Work Remotely: No

Starting Salary: $14.50/hr – $15.00/hr (salary commensurate with experience)

Job Purpose: Under the direction of the Grounds Supervisor and Director. The primary duties include but are not limited to; mowing, seeding, fertilizing, sodding, installing landscaping and flower beds, mulching, pruning and snow removal.

Specific Job Duties:

• Ability to perform general maintenance tasks of a standardized nature using a variety of hand tools and motorized equipment
• Ability to climb and work from elevated stations such as ladders, bucket truck and scaffolding
• Ability to work for long periods of time standing, walking, reaching, bending, pushing/pulling
• Ability to have a good team work skill and be able to understand, comprehend and follow directions in the workplace
• Must be able to work in types of weather conditions, including extreme temperatures. Inclement or hazardous weather cleanup is required as directed.
  obtaining a Pesticide Registered technician certification in 6 months of employment

Schedule:

• 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (8 hours/day with some evening and weekends to meet needs of department may be required.
• Mandatory with this position is the requirement for emergency and/or inclement weather services as deemed by the Director of Grounds.

Physical Demands: Heavy lifting a must (over 50 pounds)

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Must have 1 to 3 years experience in grounds related services along with knowledge and training in groundskeeping, gardening and landscaping techniques preferred.
• Must possess a valid Virginia driver’s license.
• Pesticide certification is preferred but not required at time of hire but will be necessary within 6 months of employment.
