JOB PURPOSE:
Provides student account services and collects on student accounts. Serves as the main cashier for the University of Lynchburg.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Serves as main cashier for the University. Enters payments received in-person, over the phone, and online. Will also enter all other deposits from departments across campus including (but not limited to) Dining Hall, Westover Room, On Common Ground, and the Campus Store.
- Reconciles all payments received throughout the day for both Student AR and Other Receipts.
- Composes bank deposit tickets at the end of each day and logs deposits on the daily log.
- Assists students, parents, and third-party payees in financial matters related to student accounts.
- Answers questions from parents regarding tuition and financial matters through in-person, email, or phone conversation.
- Handles all third-party billing and creates itemized statements and receipts as needed.
- Handles collections for all inactive accounts through emails, phone calls, and letters.
- Sends inactive accounts to collection agencies after 60 days of inactivity.
- Manages all requests for petty cash advances, including Life at Lynchburg.
- Responds to voicemail messages and emails on a daily basis.
- Sets up payment arrangements and adds PERC holds as needed.
- Participates in fall and spring orientation and check-in as needed.
- Handles all return mail processing for the Perkins Loan program. Reaches out to individuals who have not provided updated address information to the University. Updates mailing addresses as needed.
- As changes are made to Perkins Loan accounts, the appropriate changes and adjustments are sent to the billing service. All needed reports are printed from the billing service and reviewed each month.
- Writes all checks and makes all deposits in the Perkins Loan Fund checking account.
- Serves as backup and processes refunds in the absence of the Manager of Student Accounts.
- Performs any other related duties as may be assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is usually performed sitting with little standing. The normal work schedule is 37.5 hours per week. Some additional time may be required at the beginning of each semester. Time constraints and pressure are expected during peak times.
Qualifications
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
Two years of experience handling student accounts with computer experience. Experience in Google Suite and/or Colleague are preferred.
ORAL OR WRITTEN REQUIREMENTS:
Good oral and writing skills for effective communication by telephone or direct personal contact and for creating reports and memos to students.
MINIMUM EDUCATION:
Associate’s degree in Accounting or Business, or equivalent with computer training is preferred.
