The Mesonet Manager Professional with the University of Maine Cooperative Extension is responsible for the installation and ongoing maintenance of a new 26-station weather monitoring network (mesonet) across Maine. Installation of the Maine Mesonet will require testing and calibrating equipment and frequent in-state travel. This work will be done through the Maine Climate Office in collaboration with the Maine State Climatologist, and will also include partnerships with colleagues within Cooperative Extension, the UMaine Climate Change Institute, and often in coordination with state and federal entities and private landowners. This is a 12-month, full-time position located in Orono, ME.Complete Job Description. Qualifications : Required :

Bachelor’s or Master's degree in applied meteorology, climatology or closely related discipline.

Three to four years of relevant professional experience working with mesonets and weather monitoring equipment.

Ability to communicate effectively using oral, written and electronic methods.

Demonstrated computer and technology skills.

Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in an autonomous work environment as well work effectively as part of a team, and able to achieve and document measurable results.

Ability to supervise technicians and undergraduate students in the field.

Demonstrated management, organizational, and facilitation skills, including the ability to handle conflict.

Demonstrated skills at collaborating with other agencies and organizations.

Preferred :

Master's degree in applied meteorology or climatology and five years professional experience with mesonets.

Proficiency with computer programs such as Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, as well as some experience with Python or other programming languages.

Knowledge of University of Maine Cooperative Extension and its educational programs.

Experience working with diverse audiences; knowledge of diversity, equity and inclusion; and understanding of equal opportunity, affirmative action and civil rights policies.
