The University of Maine Facilities Management Department seeks applications for a Facilities Maintenance Supervisor CL2 (Custodial). Starting pay for this full-time position is $$28.74hr.

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Management of and participation in all aspects of snow removal operations including pre-season preparations, during season execution and post-season cleanup
  • This position will be responsible for overseeing construction projects from start to finish including estimates, planning, meeting safety requirements, set up, managing staff performance, efficiency, productivity, etc.
  • Supervises facilities maintenance staff to include: prioritizing, assigning and scheduling work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff are trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures, and maintain a healthy and safe working environment; and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations. May manage time in computerized time-keeping system.
  • Supervises the day-to-day operations in assigned area of responsibility, which may include planning, and coordinating projects and processes; developing work plans; inspecting in-progress and completed work to ensure conformance with established standards; and monitoring compliance with applicable standards.
  • Management of all aspects of the Grounds Shop operation including the grounds crew, mowing crew and landscaping crew including but not limited to maintaining material and tool inventories, staff scheduling, assignment of work, meal money
  • Management of the maintenance and operation of all shop vehicles and equipment
  • Interacting and collaborating with other FM shops, campus departments, contractors, vendors and local municipalities as needed
  • Develop estimates for jobs and projects
  • Management of typical office documents including timecards, work orders, dig permits, fire permits, etc.
  • Training employees
  • Demolition work, campus signage, campus event support (including but not limited to Commencement, Maine Day, Homecoming, and Maine Hello), moving services
  • Construction work
  • Hiring, performance assessment
  • Part of the campus improvement team
  • Paving, line striping
  • Ability to use a laser level, grade and contour, trench, excavate, etc.
  • Ability to interpret complex blueprints and project plans, executing intricate tasks
  • High level equipment operation skills

Qualifications:
Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)
  • Must possess a valid CDL Class A license or possess a valid CDL Class B license
  • The ability to remain professional while under pressure in a fast paced environment is required
  • Actively foster a safe work environment including training
  • Strong leadership skills, flexibility and the ability to foster a team environment are required
  • Experience with heavy equipment, earthwork, underground utilities and paving preferred
  • Willingness to work extended hours on a regular and/or unplanned basis is required
  • Familiarity with MS4, SWPP and hazardous waste policies and procedures preferred
  • Experience working in a union environment is preferred
  • Basic knowledge of computers is required (email, internet, online training, etc.)
  • Requires ability to work independently in an environment with changing needs and resources using considerable judgement and initiative.
  • Considerable communication skills and the ability to make decisions by examining a variety of information.

Positions in this class typically require: Ability to perform physical activities that require talking, hearing, seeing and considerable and repetitive use of arms and legs and moving entire body, such as reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, climbing, lifting, bending, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials. Heavy work: The ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Lifting and exerting forces more than 50 pounds requires assistance by other employee(s) or mechanical assistance. Individual forces must never exceed 50 pounds.
