The University of Maine at Augusta is seeking applicants for the position of Part-Time Faculty of Social Sciences . This appointment will start in the fall 2025 semester, with opportunities to teach in future semesters as well. The successful candidate will teach courses in the field of Sociology, Social Science, Anthropology or Geography.

UMA serves a mix of traditional and non-traditional students and offers a wide array of liberal arts and professional programs leading to certificates, and associate and baccalaureate degrees. Programs are delivered on campus, online, and using a network of University centers and sites across the state and internationally.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s in Sociology, Social Sciences, or a related field
  • Higher Education teaching experience
  • Ability to teach introductory, upper level, and elective courses in Sociology, Social Science, Anthropology, or Geography

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D in Sociology, Social Science, or related field
  • Ability to teach to the Social Science Program’s core curriculum (e.g. Research Literacy, Research Methods) and supporting students' interest in research and graduate education
  • Commitment to interdisciplinary teaching as well as fostering diversity, equity, inclusion and social justice
  • Commitment to UMA’s mission in undergraduate education and teaching non-traditional students
  • Experience teaching first-generation, justice-impacted, and/or early college students
  • Teaching experience in person as well as a variety of distance education instructional modes (e.g. online asynchronous, Zoom)
  • Experience with the Brightspace Learning Management System

Salary: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and previous college teaching experience, in accordance with the PATFA contract.
