The Choice Program
The Choice Program at UMBC provides mentoring and advocacy services to young people, primarily Black and Latinx, throughout Central Maryland. We utilize a community-based, family-centered approach in order to promote quality outcomes for young people and families. We engage in a collaborative process of service, where young people set goals for themselves and are held accountable by supportive adults along the way. Our approach to youth development is grounded in applied critical race theory and culturally responsive, trauma-informed, restorative practices. We strive to be an anti-racist organization grounded in several core values: holistic development, the belief in humans and youth-centeredness.
UMBC offers competitive compensation. This role starts at $61,500 and has over 4 weeks of vacation for regular full time roles. Tuition remission is also available.

Key responsibilities include:
- Oversee Social Enterprise Operations – Manage daily business functions, staff scheduling, inventory oversight, and workforce development contracts at Choice Program social enterprise locations.
- Financial Management & Reporting – Maintain accurate financial records, analyze financial data, and create financial forecasts to ensure sustainability and compliance.
- Strategic Leadership & Planning – Provide vision and direction for Choice Jobs programming, ensuring alignment with the program’s workforce development goals.
- Supervise & Train Staff – Oversee operations assistants, provide on-the-job training, and support professional development for enterprise staff.
- Ensure Compliance & Maintain Partnerships – Monitor and uphold operational standards, ensuring compliance with UMBC policies, health department regulations, and lease agreements while maintaining strong relationships with landlords and partners.
- Develop & Implement Marketing Strategies – Create branding and promotional campaigns to increase awareness and revenue for social enterprises.
- Enhance Customer Service Models – Implement customer feedback systems to assess and improve service quality and offerings.
- Explore Workforce Development Expansion – Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Vocational Programming to identify opportunities for growth and expansion of social enterprise initiatives.
- Support Program Initiatives – Provide administrative and operational support to the Associate Director of Choice Jobs, assisting with special projects as needed.
- Offer backup support on evenings and weekends as required.
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED
Experience:
- At least two years of experience working in food service, hospitality, or a related field, including one year with managerial responsibilities, such as oversight of inventory and payroll
- At least one year of supervisory experience
- Current or previous experience with The Choice Program at UMBC
- Youth development programming
- Experience mentoring youth
- Experience working or volunteering for an organization, institution or company with, or personally having, a strong commitment to anti-racist practices, equity and inclusion
- Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle where you are on the insurance
- Fluency in Spanish a plus

Salary: $61,500 - $67,500 depending on qualifications and experience.
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.
