Under general supervision, performs locksmith work that includes electronic and mechanical devices. Installs, repairs and maintains locks, locking systems, door closures and locking devices on all types of doors and equipment. Repairs electronic handicap automatic door operators and modifies building hardware to comport with card access system to include installing micro-electronic switches as part of the campus-wide security system.

Facilities Management provides free uniforms and shoes for skilled trades positions. Tools are provided for use on the job as well as a UMBC owned vehicle to travel to worksites on campus. UMBC also assists with keeping trades licenses current and obtaining needed training.
UMBC offers competitive compensation. This role starts at $48,138 and full time regular positions offer 14 days of vacation, 15 sick days, 15 holidays including winter break and spring break, as well as 3 personal days. Tuition remission benefits are available immediately for employees.

- Installs, repairs, rebuilds, test and opens mechanical and electronic locks, locking systems, door closures and locking devices.
- Repairs computerized electronic doors operators.
- Customizes over-the-counter locking hardware to comport to the campus-wide computerized card access system.
- Maintains elaborate five-stage campus-wide master key system.
- Installs low-voltage electric door strikes including transformer installation and wiring.
- Participates in security design meetings to provide design specifications on renovations and new construction.
- Disassembles locks, repairs or replaces worn tumblers, springs and other parts. Inserts new or repaired tumblers into locks to change combination.
- Maintains extensive and complex records of campus security system. Prepares departmental reports.
- Provides guidance and training to other maintenance personnel. May have lead responsibility on special projects.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Five years progressively responsible experience in the locksmith trade including maintenance of automatic door operators and involving electro-magnetic key access systems.
- Driver's License valid in the State of Maryland

Pay Range 10 (starting at $48,138 - $79,389) based on the University System of Maryland Pay Program

UMBC also assists with keeping trades licenses current and obtaining needed training. Opportunities for shift differential, on-call, and overtime pay may be available.
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, Memorandum of Understanding, USM Board of Regent policies, internal equity, budget and qualifications and experience. Most salary offers will be close to the minimum part of the range.
