This position will serve as a key partner to the leadership and work of the newly established Broad-Based Campaigns & Strategic Engagement (BCSE) department, which works to identify and qualify the next generation of major gift donors by developing an engaged pipeline of donors at all levels for the University of Maryland. This department is within the Central Development vertical in University Relations and is made up of three teams that inform, develop, and conduct these efforts and who all rely on a donor-centric, analytical and data-forward approach. The leadership in BCSE includes the Executive Director of Development, and the team leads who oversee centralized annual giving efforts, Donor Experience, and Leadership Annual Giving.
This inaugural role requires someone entrepreneurial who will help to build and define its scope over its initial 18 months. The Specialist is responsible for executive-level administration, organization, and communication efforts for the work of BCSE. This person should be a self-starter who plans and acts proactively, with excellent problem solving and organizational skills, an eye for detail, and understands the importance of maintaining a high level of discretion and confidentiality.
The Specialist will participate in setting priorities for and independently managing multiple short-term and long-term projects, and they will recommend and execute additional ad hoc projects to achieve the operational and strategic goals of BCSE. The work of the BCSE team involves several complex software tools; the ability to master new technologies will help this person be successful. They should be tech-forward and adept at building expertise in different types of software platforms and complex systems, and they should bring a collaborative, curious, and good-humored approach.
Physical Demands: Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard equipment and keyboards. The individual must also be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Preferences:
-Prior experience in fundraising/development environment and/or higher education;
-Knowledge of complex philanthropic databases.
-Proficient with Google Business products
-Superb attention to detail, follow-through, and initiative.
-Excellent communication skills including writing, proof reading and speaking;
-Collaborative and interacts effectively with both external and internal audiences and capable of building strong work relationships in a complex environment;
-Able to work in a fast-paced, executive-level environment;
-Flexible and able to take direction, in addition to managing multiple projects and tasks simultaneously;
-Able to manage work assignments with minimal supervision, proactively identify solutions, and respond effectively to short deadlines;
-Able to research, collect, organize, and analyze information for executive-level staff;
-Exercise good judgment in making decisions independently
-Maintain confidentiality and discretion in all matters.
-Proactive self-starter and comfortable with the innate ambiguity of building something new.
-Detail-oriented and organized.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Three (3) years of experience in related field.
Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education. Knowledge of multimedia environmental regulations, guidelines and best practices.
