What are the responsibilities and job description for the Laboratory Practice Representative Supervisor - Pathology position at University of Maryland Faculty Physicians, Inc?
Provides direct support and supervision to all activities associated with patient registration, phlebotomy, processing, and customer service. Supervise employees’ daily task, providing guidance and support, monitoring performance and enforcing UMPA’s policy and safety standards; and other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
- Completion of an accredited program in phlebotomy is preferred
- Minimum of 10 years phlebotomy and processing experience preferred
- Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience preferred
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1.Oversees the staff to ensure they confirm all written orders on the requisition match specimen label and all appropriate tests are ordered correctly in LIS system.
2.Oversees the staff to ensure patients have been appropriately identified according to the laboratory SOP.
3.Ensures the staff identifies any special instructions that have been written on the requisition and clarifies before performing venipuncture.
4.Oversees and ensures the correct tubes and specimen containers are selected and collected for the appropriate test ordered and are labeled correctly.
5.
Venipuncture - Oversees and ensures the staff demonstrates the appropriate technical skills and ensures that laboratory SOP’s are followed.
6.Ensures all relevant SOPs are followed and reviewed by the staff.
7.Ensures CAP, UMPA, and GLP (when appropriate) guidelines are followed during the phlebotomy and processing procedures.
8.Determines acceptability of specimens and ensures all specimens are accurately logged into the LIS system.
9.Oversees to ensure the staff spins, separates, stores and package specimens appropriately to deliver to processing.

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of University of Maryland’s Faculty Physician’s Inc. salary range for this position. Some candidates will not be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, internal equity, responsibility factor and span of control, education/training and other qualifications.
