What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Assistant II-OB/GYN position at University of Maryland Faculty Physicians, Inc?
Duties will include: assisting physicians and nursing staff in the care of patients; assisting in performing ancillary testing/services for patients; assisting with the monitoring of patient flow; assisting with patient exams; obtaining vital signs; reviewing charts prior to delivering care; providing clear patient education and instructions; administering medications properly; assisting with daily/weekly clinical duties (room stocking, cleaning, etc.); assisting in creating and filing medical records; and other duties as assigned.
Requirements Qualified applicants will possess: H.S. diploma or equivalent (GED); completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program and CMA certification is required; 2-3 years medical assisting and medical office experience; ability to perform all medical assisting responsibilities under state and faculty guidelines; strong patient assessment skills; and excellent communication skills; CPR certification is required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Gathers and documents brief history and chief complaint in the medical record.
2. Follows established guidelines to obtain necessary testing based on the chief complaint prior to the exam. Prepares patient for examination by the health care provider.
3. Performs routine office testing, including but not limited to; phlebotomy, sweat and hydration tests, urinalysis, vision testing, hearing screening, pulmonary function testing, temperature, pulse and blood pressure.
4. Assists provider with procedures and minor surgical procedures.
5. Obtains necessary patient specimens for diagnostic testing which would indicate the MA should also assist with obtaining cultures from rectums, vagina, anus, stool, wounds, throat biopsy specimens, etc.
6. Administers and documents injections and other medications given.
7. Assists provider with clarification of patient instruction such as, diagnostic test preparation, and medication administration.
8. Exhibits compassion and empathy for all patients and families at all times.
9. Sterilizes all reusable instruments and equipment as needed.

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of University of Maryland’s Faculty Physician’s Inc. salary range for this position. Some candidates will not be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, internal equity, responsibility factor and span of control, education/training and other qualifications.
