What are the responsibilities and job description for the Registration Specialist - University Imaging Center position at University of Maryland Faculty Physicians, Inc?
Responsible for performing various duties that will ensure patient service and practice revenue by obtaining complete and accurate registration and insurance information, and ensure that IDX/EPIC is noted accordingly.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
- One to two years medical experience
- Current knowledge of payer requirements for referrals and preauthorization
- Strong customer service skills
- PC proficiency
- Medical terminology preferred
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general documents
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, patients, and staff
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Promptly responds to faxes and requests received from departments regarding patient registration or insurance information.
2. Maintains file of all resolved and pending requests for information from departments; consistently follows the FPI patient confidentiality policy.
3. Listens to patient needs, concerns, and problems before responding; responds professionally.
4. Follows department protocols to assess needs for financial counseling (e.g. no insurance, large balance) and directs to financial counseling representative.
5. Follows the department protocols to verify insurance coverage for all patients prior to date of service within established practice timeframe.
6. Follows subscriber and insurance rules in order to verify eligibility of primary insurance coverage.
7. Verifies other insurance to determine eligibility and status.
8. Verifies medical office coverage based on scheduled services.
9. Verifies benefit coverage of high cost, frequently denied and/or experimental services.

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of University of Maryland’s Faculty Physician’s Inc. salary range for this position. Some candidates will not be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, internal equity, responsibility factor and span of control, education/training and other qualifications.
