Demonstrates competency in performing clerical duties and clinical support consistent with the mission and values of the University of Maryland Rehabilitation and Orthopaedic Institute (UMROI) and in accordance with regulatory requirements. Serves as a fully engaged member of the interdisciplinary patient care services team. Participates in cost effective strategies that optimize patient outcomes.

- Electronic/Paper documentation
- Accurately and concisely maintains patient care records along the continuum from admission to discharge
- Attends required training on electronic Medical record documentation, electronic admission and discharge process, and HIPAA requirements.
- Demonstrates ability to write or electronically document accurately in the medical record and/or file paper documents as verified by chart review.
- Performs basic computer and clerical skills.
- Communication/ Collaboration
- Develops communication skills to enhance networking with other clinical and clerical staff.
- Uses active listening principles to promote interdisciplinary teamwork, patient safety, and customer service.
- Demonstrates ability to articulately and clearly use verbal, telephone, and/or written skills.

- Utilizes clinical information systems to enter, update, revise or delete clinical and demographic data.
- Coordinates/facilitates consults, appointments treatments and special equipment based on patient needs.
- Demonstrates ability to complete delegated tasks related to the patient population in the area of assignment.
- Supports unit/organizational goals and problem solving initiatives as a fully engaged team member.
- Provides assistance to interdisciplinary team members as required to meet needs of the unit and organization.
- Responds to operational problems. Reports to appropriate clinician, including follow-up.
- Maintains orderly appearance of work area.
- Maintains, updates, and protects the integrity of patients Medical Records. Assumes efficient transfer of completed medical record upon discharge/transfer.
- Quality and Patient Safety:
- Alerts staff to STAT/urgent physician's orders.
- Ensures the safety of the clinical environment for patients, visitors, and other staff members.
- Demonstrates knowledge, practice, and accountability for compliance with the TJC National Patient Safety Goals within scope of practice.
- Detects, reports, and takes action to avoid or correct safety risks.
- Reports adverse events and near misses to appropriate management authority.
- Cost Effectiveness:
- Acts on opportunities to improve patient flow and prevent care delays.
- Employs practices that improve efficiency, reduce costs, and maximize charge capture when delivering patient care.
- Inputs efficient and balanced self-scheduling data in compliance with staffing targets and guidelines.
