Clinical Laboratory Assistant Microbiology
FullTime; Nights; 11pm7 : 30am
Under direct supervision appropriately addresses preparation and routing for laboratory testing in any one of various specialized laboratories throughout UMMS : Immunology Rapid Response (Chemistry / Hematology) Blood Bank Microbiology Virology Molecular Diagnostics UMCC Laboratories and Shock Trauma Stat Lab in accordance with departmental procedures and regulations stipulated by Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act.
Principal Responsibilities and Tasks
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.
- Receives and accessions patient samples into the Laboratory Information System. Ensures that all codes and information are entered accurately and timely. Maintains accurate patient identification and information for billing purposes following departmental procedures.
- Accessions processes and arranges delivery of specimens according to departmental procedures.
- Acts as the Expeditor for specimen management. Coordinates specimen and order processing and ensures specimens are processed and delivered to the testing or problem solving areas in timely manner.
- Evaluates specimen integrity. Ensures specimens are adequate for testing : volume hemolysis; correct collection tube etc.
- Answers telephones and responds to customer inquiries and requests.
