Job Description
The University Of Maryland Medical System is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to join our surgical team as a Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA). As an RNFA, you will play a critical role in the operating room, assisting surgeons during procedures and providing exceptional patient care.

This position requires a strong foundation in perioperative nursing, with a focus on first assisting skills. The ideal candidate will have experience working in an operating room environment, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality patient care.
Responsibilities
Assist surgeons during surgical procedures, including positioning, prepping, and draping patients.
Perform tissue handling tasks, such as making incisions, retracting, dissecting, tying, ligating, stapling, suturing, and providing hemostasis.
First assist with endoscopic or open procedures specific to the surgical service assigned.
First or second assist with all general surgical, thoracic, and vascular surgical procedures as assigned.
Install femoral arterial lines, radial artery lines, and femoral venous lines as required.
Insert chest tubes.
Closure and readiness of patients for post-operative phase of procedure.
Defibrillation (external) of patients as needed.
Assist with emergency procedures and resuscitation as needed.
Act as an assistant for robotic procedures as required by assigned service.
Qualifications and Requirements
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse with the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Nurses.
Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support.
Current CNOR certification from the National Certification Board of Perioperative Nursing.
A minimum of two years of experience as a Registered Nurse.
Certification as a RNFA is preferred.
