What are the responsibilities and job description for the Technical Specialist, Microbiology Laboratory position at University of Maryland Medical System?
Under the direction of the appropriate laboratory management and/or the clinical director, performs and develops testing for the clinical laboratory. Ensures that efficient and effective work process use and procedures are followed utilizing regulatory and safety requirements. Performs patient testing as requested by the administrative or assistant director. Serves as a technical resource for the department.
Located in Largo in the heart of Prince George’s County, our new state-of-the-art regional medical center (UM Capital Region Medical Center) will provide improved access to primary and ambulatory care services, and serve as a tertiary care center for critically ill patients. In addition, our new space will allow us to expand our offerings as a community partner to help improve the health status of Prince George’s County residents.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Basic Sciences, or another related field is required. ASCP certification or equivalent preferred.
Experience: Three years of relevant experience is required. Specialty certification in an area of expertise or a Master’s degree is preferred.
