The Department of Geology at the University of Maryland invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in Earth materials, with interests in critical minerals and resources, mineralogy, petrology, geochemistry, geophysics or geobiology. The appointee will be expected to develop and maintain an active, externally funded research program that will involve both graduate and undergraduate students, and to participate fully in teaching at all levels. The Department of Geology at UMD is a collegial department with vibrant and diverse research interests. The successful candidate would have access to a wide range of analytical, experimental, and computing facilities, including electron probe micro-analyzer, scanning electron microscope, FTIR-spectroscopy, and plasma, thermal ionization, and gas-source mass spectrometers. A Ph.D. in Geology or a related discipline is required at the time of appointment. The appointment may begin as early as August 1, 2025.
