Job Description Summary
The Director of Enterprise Data Services reports to the Assistant Vice President in the Division of Information Technology (DIT) at the University of Maryland, College Park.The Director is responsible for leadership, vision, planning and operations for the DIT Enterprise Data Services team, responsible for the campus wide data warehouse, data analytic tools such as Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, SAS and Tableau, data virtualization, data integrations between a variety of systems and centrally managed database administration for the University of Maryland, College Park. This includes managing and monitoring the health of all aforementioned services in order to meet the service level requirements for students, faculty and staff.
The Director provides strategic direction for budgeting, planning, implementation and operations of all aforementioned services and equipment. By employing technical and administrative expertise, the Director oversees all operational and personnel activities of the Database Administration, Master Data Management, Data Integrations and Data Warehousing units.
The Director also serves as liaison with service providers, corporate partners, campus technology support personnel and University administration. The Director will provide project management for projects of a complex or sensitive nature.
This position is considered essential and may be required to work at the normal work location or an alternative location during a major catastrophic event, weather emergency, or other operational emergency to help maintain the continuity of University services.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience:
- Ten (10) years of professional experience supporting the operations, maintenance, and administration of information technology infrastructure. At least five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the leadership, administration, and personnel management of major technology/service units.
- Technical competency and demonstrated success leading and managing cross functional teams.
- A thorough knowledge and experience with budgeting, planning, operations, and management within a large organization; experience in delivering excellence.
- Establish, demonstrate, and uphold excellent written and oral communication skills, including the capability of adapting communication style to different audiences both individually and across the organization Excellent leadership and management skills. This includes the ability to lead a team, delegate tasks effectively, provide guidance and support, and foster collaboration.
- Experience in managing cross-functional teams and driving results
- Proficiency in delivering effective presentations and training sessions to team members, stakeholders, or clients. This includes the ability to identify opportunities for knowledge-sharing, skill development, and conducting informative sessions that enhance the team's performance and productivity.
- Effectively manages communications and relationships with senior leadership, campus stakeholders, and across managed teams and outside teams.
- Ability to lead, manage, motivate and develop Assistant Directors, Managers, and staff to identify and solve problems, make improvements, and address ongoing issues
- Work collaboratively with faculty, staff, administrators, and constituents outside the university; represent the University at local, state, regional, and national forums
- Demonstrated ability to incorporate IT security principles and practices into all projects to protect the systems and data from threats.
- Strong project management skills to the point of defining project scope, risks, setting deadlines and overall management of the project team
- Demonstrated expertise in data analysis and the ability to leverage data to drive informed decision-making to create multi year vision for the team and proposed solutions to senior leadership
- Ability to effectively manage workload and delivery assignments on time
- Extensive experience in setting performance expectations, conducting performance evaluations, and implementing strategies to enhance team productivity and quality of work.
- The capacity to comprehend and handle interpersonal dynamics, demonstrate empathy towards team members, and effectively handle conflicts or challenging circumstances.
- Experience in coaching and mentoring team members to enhance their performance, provide constructive feedback, and help them develop their skills.
- Proficient in documentation standards and procedure development. Extensive experience with escalation and notification procedures for internal and external customers (management, students, faculty, staff, and vendors)
- Proficiency in planning, allocating, and managing budgets effectively Knowledge of the databases, data storage, ETL, data quality and data governance.
