May require work beyond normal schedule including some extended hours during peak periods.

Hiring Range : $65,000 - $66,300 per year

Working Conditions : While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to handle or feel, and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to stand, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

Positions Supervised : Academic Service Coordinators. May also supervise student workers and / or graduate assistants.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • Knowledgeable in best practices of advising students
  • Knowledgeable in evaluating credentials
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a broad audience
  • Ability to maintain prompt and regular attendance

Job Duties :

  • Advises pre-health and pre-law students on academic, career and personal issues; identifies the educational and career options appropriate for each student and assists with the analysis of each option, including possible outcomes and their implications. If needed, refers students to counseling services or faculty for additional information. Provides pre-health and pre-law students with broad and new comprehensive knowledge of university curriculum and course content and assists with decision-making. Develops department catalog information and changes and develops class schedule in conjunction with faculty.
  • Assists with undergraduate and graduate recruitment activities including high school, community college and university visitations, participation in career expos, presentations to private and campus organizations and conducting workshops. Meets with prospective students interested in healthcare and legal professions.
  • Coordinates and directs career placement services for academic department (including recruitment fairs, preparation of resume seminars, interview training, etc.). Organizes Pre-Health and Pre-Law Career Fairs; coordinates faculty committee for recommendations for professional school; maintains relationship with area professional schools to ensure students know pre-requisite courses and other requirements; assists with admissions applications, internship and job / volunteer opportunities; serves on the scholarship committee for pre-health and pre-law scholarships.
  • Coordinates and leads special programs such as the Pre-Health Tiger Learning community, peer advising, career placement, internships or college honors program; designs program structure and adjusts it to accommodate changing conditions; serves as program liaison with campus divisions, the community and other institutions; monitors and evaluates program effectiveness; trains and monitors staff who assist with the program.
  • Develops and maintains web site for department as coordinated by other University staff. Develops communication programs for the department, including newsletters, web site content, program notifications and advertisements, and department exhibits. Provides information and statistical data, such as detailed enrollment statistics in the special program; analyzes data and writes reports as requested; manages academic files and department databases.
  • Directly supervise Academic Services Coordinator(s) that contribute to pre-health advising to ensure service excellence.
